On the 30th April, some of our mentors organised a post WeCare project - the Block Party.

It was an evening of fun, held for the residents of Blk 4, There were Performances, Lucky Draw, Prizes, Games and many more. We were really thankful for the supportive residents of Blk 4!

We could not forget those smiles on their face! By this, we believe we had make a difference in their life. At the same time, realising how fortunate we are.

Hello All!

It's been a very long wait............Sorry for the MIA!

Our club has been very active with events recently, and just yesterday, we ended our Freshmen Orientation Camp 2011, the Ninja camp! (Will do a blog post about that very sooooon!)

On the April 16th, we got our Annual Gala Dinner & Dance at the Grassroots' Club, themed Once Upon a Fairytale.

It was really a night of fairytales and now we believe miracles do happen! For example...........(Shall let the pictures do the talking :])

Months of preparations went pass, and we're all waiting for this day. This year's Mini Educational Fair was totally different from the previous ones we did!

Why? Because other than our own mentees and mentors,

WE'VE MENTEES AND MENTORS FROM NGEE ANN POLYTECHNIC TO JOIN US! :)

This is the very first official event that our 10th Subsidiary Committee organized :) And yea, it was really successful! Laughters can be heard everywhere, mentees running around, playing games again and again. Other than that, we're really glad and grateful to see faces from Ngee Ann Polytechnic Mentoring this year!!

Project WeCare

After months of preparations and hard work, the big day has finally arrived!

Project WeCare happened on 17th December 2010. Planning work done beforehand were put into action, and for every one of us, that day was a heartwarming one.

The day started off with loading and unloading of goodie bags and cup noodles etc. Following by after briefing, the event commence: Visiting to households, talking to them, getting to know their current conditions and understanding their needs.

Our mentors are taking the first step to changing and improving the lives of the elderlys! Towards the end, everyone shared their experiences while visiting the households. And yes, we did hear quite a lot of stories.

Therefore, Project WeCare team decides to continue the mission: Now that we heard their needs, it is time we reach out to them. Do lookout for more coming up events from Project WeCare: ) ('Like' Project WeCare to get latest updates and photos)

Hi everyone! And so, after the "long" wait, MSTs are over! :)

Since we are on hiatus for quite awhile..what have we been up to lately?

Firstly, there's our 15th SP BP MENTORING ANNIVERSARY on 20th of Nov!

Needless to say, with the high ambience and all, we all had fun!

There's nice performances, delicious food, fun games, hyped out music.....the atmosphere on that day was totally HIGH!

On 6th August, ZhangDe mentors had their very first outing cum activity! :)

The BBQ was awesome enough that it got us all sweating and drooling. After an evening of playing Pokercards, basketball, guitar session, sing, dance, chitchat and EATING, everyone was exhausted. Nevertheless, we still had much fun! :D

Special thanks to Mr Felix Tan Wei Hao and Mr Keith Lee(who came later on) for helping us with the charcoals, fire and all... (We appreciate your sweat and black hands. :*] )

Hello! How is everyone doing? :D Hope you guys are not drowning in the world of projects and tutorials! Jiayou!!

Last Saturday, we had our new mentors bonding session. It was a success and our objectives are met!!! Everyone is bonded together like we knew each other previously, and our mentors had an enjoyable time! :) We had great ice breaking games with each other, mass games and of course all time favorite FORFEITS! :P

Annual Handover Ceremony cum Skills Workshop

July 3rd marks a special day for our new mentors and the committee!

For the new mentors, they finally got to meet each other face to face! This is also the first mentoring's event that some of them attended.

The day started off with the skills workshop by Mr Paul Yuen who is so professional and humorous that he gave us all a good time learning in a fun way. (Our committee are so into listening despite attending the workshop twice. xD) With Mr Paul Yuen around, the whole MLT 1 is filled with interaction and lively atmosphere! We believe there are quite a lot of new friends made too :)

After the workshop, our handover ceremony begins. This ceremony meant a lot to the committee, as it is the day when we celebrate our tears and joys for the year, the day when our efforts are recognised. :)

Last sunday, we had our Gala & Dedication Dinner 2010 - Casino Royal where everyone dressed to the nines (all of you look so gorgeous!) It's a wonderful night spent with our mentoring peeps that was filled with joy.

Mini Education Fair 2010

On 20th March 2010, our club has organised our yearly Mini Education Fair for the third year.

The successful fair is divided into various sectors which include Arts, Fiesta, Maths, Science and Sports.

This year's theme is Little Red Riding Hood where the games played and exhibitions displayed are related to the theme. The mentees had to go through each department to accumulate points for redemption of prizes.

Qifa Outing

Last Wednesday, our Qifa mentees came over to our school for a field trip. (We're delighted to have them over :D)

The excited mentees were given a talk by our librarian at the Main Library. After which, they were given a small tour around the school to places like Moberly and the swimming pool.

Then, it was games session at one of the tutorial rooms!

Lots of laughter and joy during the games despite the small area and time constraint.

Although it was a short session, we are really looking forward to have them over again.

& we can't wait for the mentoring sessions to start because this outing is the last session for the year! :(

Mentoring Olympics

Everyone had truckloads of fun on our mentor outing - Mentoring Olympics held on 26th September.

Despite the scorching sun, everyone enjoyed the series of games planned specially for this occasion and displayed sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the games. (Cue: Clap Clap)

The outing came to an end with a prize presentation for the efforts each team put in. Once again, congratulations!

FOC, FOC, a well organised and executed big event, everyone did enjoy the happy moment out of it, and the great success of this event should be the result that you and I were hoping for, and indeed, it was true!

Thousands of photos had been taken, thanks our photographers with professional shooting skills, with their high-megapixels cameras around, capturing the sweet moments of everyone...=]

Shall we take a trip on the time machine and look back our first day of the event? Yes definitely! Special thanks to all of our organising committees and helpers, your contributions and sacrifices are much appreciated! Without your support, I think we can’t be able to attract interested campers to participate, isn’t it?

This is the second consecutive year SP BP Mentoring has organised an educational fair that involves Science, Math, Arts & Sports! This year, we have even added a new department “Fiesta – Abstract Magic”.

Undoubtedly, our Mini-Educational Fair was successfully held on the 14 March 2009.

The day kicked off with the preparations of booths and on the spot trial.

"Come on... Use the mirrors and the laser to shoot down the Evil Queen!"

Shortly, the mentees arrive from the various schools and were briefed on their mission of the day! All mentees were required to go through each department to learn something new and be the Knight of the Day and save Snow White from the Evil Queen!

Venue: Singapore Polytechnic, T22 level 6 classrooms
Time: 11.00am to 2.30pm. (Latest will be 3.00pm)
Theme: Save Snow White from the Wicked Witch.

Synopsis:
It is an education fair whereby various stalls of the many different departments are set up.

There are Maths, Arts, Science, Sports and Magical Fiesta Department.

Mentees will be roaming around the classrooms of different departments in order to play all interactive games and claim prizes. Our tasks as Mentors or hosts will be to guide and play with the mentees during the event.

Note: There will be free lunch for all participants.

Outing to Healthzone

An official event was organised for the new batch of 8th Subsidiary Committee to learn more the plannings of events, especially for a mentee outing. And we went to Healthzone!

The trip to Healthzone @ HPB was enjoyable and enriching. It doesn’t sound convincing? Well then, take a look at it yourself:

We aren’t afraid of big things. Let’s work as a team and PULL!

Although doughnuts are not very healthy, Auntie Siew Shi simply can’t resist it.

It is time to work, after having fun.

The trip serves to bond both Management Committees together and it is a great opportunity for us to explore how the mentees feel and wish for in mentee outing.

It was quite tiring to walk/run around Singapore and to find the stations huh? But nevertheless, it helps to bond us, the Committee members with the mentors together as well.

did you guys went for the CAMP OF SCOUTING INCREDIBLES AND INTERACTION? With the camp theme of CSI, we tried to bring in the atmosphere of mystery yet fun and excitment!!! Club T-shirt Design Competition

Hello Mentors!

Our club is currently looking forward to a new club T-shirt design that can most represent us.

We will like to open up this opportunity to all our fellow mentors to design our new club T-shirt.

This opportunity will allow you to showcase your talents in designing our club T-shirt and explore your creativity as well.

The best design selected will be chosen as our club T-shirt!

The followings are the requirements which you have to take note of while designing the T-shirt.

(1) SP logo, BP logo, SP BP Mentoring Club Logo will be inputed accordingly by the Management Committee.
- SP and BP logo either at the right sleeve or at below the collar (back)
- SP BP Mentoring Club Logo will be at the top left hand corner, above the chest (front)

Basic Care workshop & Annual Handover ceremony

Hi fellow mentors!

Over the last weekend ( 5th of july ), the annual Handover Ceremony was held as well as a Basic Care workshop by Paul Yuen for all new mentors. Paul Yuen has given SP BP Mentoring a lot of help in paving ways for our newly recruited mentors by giving them a lot of issues to think about during the workshop. We hope you guys have benefited greatly from the workshop and had enjoyed the food provided! :D

Following the Basic Care workshop was our annual Handover Ceremony. The annual Handover Ceremony is held to honour the outgoing management committee and to glorify & acknowledge the incoming committee. It was filled with emotions as our 7th Management Committee pinned on badges and handover user manuals!

PAINTBALL ACTIVITY!

I’m planning a Paintball outing/gathering on this coming month, 28th June (Sat).

I’m sure most of you all will be free after your MST (dreads!).

Want to find something to do to vent all that answers you got wrongly?

A well deserved post exam activity?

So this is 1 outing you all CANNOT miss! Haha.

If you all have completely no idea what paintball is and would like to find out more, pls check it out at this website. (http://www.weplaypaintball.com/)

This place is near Khatib Mrt, just a 10mins walk from there, just opposite Yishun Stadium.

We will be playing paintball in the morning and lunch-ing in the noon. Then maybe we all can go slack around somewhere to chill out and chitchat. Haha.

You all can check out the prices for paintball at the website. They have 2 packages now which I myself think that it’s worth it.

1st package – 100 paintballs per person ($35.90)
2nd package – 250 paintballs per person ($49.90)

I know the price is kind of expensive, but I think it will be worth it if we can take the 2nd package ($49.90) as each person can play at least 5 rounds. You seldom find this kind of sports in Singapore, so try it! It’s fun =)

So guys, think about it carefully and try to come if you can. IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFE TIMEEE! This paintball event is for all mentoring ppl. I’ve called a lot of ppl to come. Up till 4 generations of mentoring ppl. LOL! it's OPEN TO EVERYONE!

AAARRRRRR MATEYS!

Pirates FO Camp 0809 finally came to a close!

After months of hardwork & preparation, the sub committee's efforts finally paid off!
I bet committee, campers, helpers all had a wondrous 3D2N together!

Our pirates clan! Flying Dutchman, Spongebob, One Piece, Popeye, Black Pearl, Jack Sparrow!

We started off with ice breaking games! (practically....) Each group had to melt a bag of ice & the fastest melters win! Those with butterfingersss... hiak hiak hiak! Were in for a treat! Walk the plank & dance fruits styleeee! After that all clans were to move off to the field for various bonding games while most helpers snuck out to do preparation for our Mysterious Night! & loads of stuff happened during the prep! Helpers realised their preference in a relationship, waxing sessions & the rest to be kept behind closed doors. LOL.

Mysterious night was really exciting as we combined nightwalk with SP Rockclimbers, SP Adventurers! The more the merrier! We would like to thank the helpers from CLS that made it happen too!

2nd day was funfilled with our tradition, pool games, followed by our thrilling slides! Our poor yet sporting CC started off by sliding first! :D dinner followed soonafter n it was SHIM NIGHT! We had SB Foyer rocking with our feminine guys struting their stuff! Next, was The Pirates Deal with our briefcase pirates! A series of general knowledge questions were asked & the most knowledgeable clan would win a suprise!

3rd day was the bomb! We had Pirates Trail! Clans were required to sail their way through Singapore's central district to purchase various items for their treasure they had to protect afterwards! Several merchants had fun torturing the poor clans with forfeits as well as the tasks they have to do on the spot. After a grueling journey, clans made their way make to SP n started wrapping their treasure - AN EGG! Eggdrop game was held and most clans managed to save their treasure! Good job guys!

All good things have to come to an end and after a mass photo taking session with BILLI BANJA, time to breakkkkk camp! Emotions filled SB Foyer as we bid farewell to our campers that will forever be a part of us!

SP BP Mentoring would like to thank EVERYONE that turned up, contributed in your own special ways, sacrificed your time, put in your all in all, participated in a way or another, helped out, brought up the camp atmosphere, cleaned the camp areas! You're all L O V E D ! & we thank you for creating such an impact on us! This Pirates FO Camp wouldn't be a success with all of you guys!

Gala & Dedication Dinner

After months of planning & hard work put in by our beloved Sub Committee, Gala cum Dedication Dinner has finally come to a close! It was a really memorable event! & this is only the 2nd time, SP BP Mentoring has held Dinner & Dance! The event was graced by our ex ex mentors as well!

This year! We've invited a really special guest from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Matthew to be our emcee and boy! Did this guy melt the hearts of all the girls with his korean song! SP Dance & Cheer came & liven up the atmosphere with their really flawless dance as well as our own SP Talentime's Winners, Janna, Zhu Ming & Allen! The event kicked off with a skit entitled "A Twisted Ending" put up by our sub comm that really got all of us roaring with laughter. All of us could see how much effort the sub comm has put in especially the Bollywood themed dance at the end of the skit!

Shortly after, a item hunting game was played & everyone had to sabotarge one poor guy from the table to be dressed up as a SHIM! Everyone was running around the ballroom to look for the specific items as well as laughing at the poor guys! After catwalking in torturous heels, the poor guys are now entitled to sabotarge 3 more people from their tables for fastest drinkers game!

Each table were to send 4 representatives to finish 1.5 litres of oolong tea and the fastest group wins! & the twist is that. The 3 fastest groups have to do forfeit! Hah! Bet nobody expected that!

The first group had to do number 1 - 10 poses in front of the camera with the 2nd group having to catwalk and the third group to do butt writing! Buffet style dinner was served shortly and the food was really yummy! Many went for a few rounds! & they served really nice fish! A personal favourite!

While all these were going on, our sub comm were on the lookout for Best Dressed Nominees & definitely, they won't be spared from mentoring style embarrassment! They had to think of pick up lines on the spot and choose their partners that's going to suffer together! A pair had to kiss each other on 5 parts of the face! Another to take turns being the pole and being pole danced upon!

& drumrolllll! The Best Dressed Couple goes to our Ex President, Miss Alister Chua & Ex Community Service Coordinator, Mr Ervin Mak! They exhibited excellent sportsmanship during the games as well as being the most admired couple! ;)

Towards the end of the event, cups meticulously decorated by our sub comm personally by each one of them were given out as well as personalised lava test tubes to each graduating mentor. Alister made a speech followed by our current President, Pei Ying!

RE: Posting Exercise 2008/2009

A new academic year will be starting soon.

Thus, once again, it will be the club major posting exercise.
This is where you will be re-shuffled into various schools for mentoring starting from 14 April 2008 onwards.

Attached is the application form, please kindly complete the form and revert to spbpmentoring@gmail.com by 8 April 2008, Tuesday.

Please kindly read through the entire application form (at the bottom of this entry) before submission due to the addition of new mentoring institutions (descriptions enclosed).
May it provide you a clearer picture of our new ventures beginning from Year 2008/2009.

Late entries are equivalent to no submission. In which, the posting of schools will be processed according to whichever mentoring institution who needs you more.

In addition, please also bear in mind that the Management Committee will try their best to ensure that all are posted to their top 3 choices. However, in any cases whereby some other schools required more manpower, we may have to deploy you over.

We seek your understanding for the above.

Here's what's been going on in the club!

MINIEDUCATIONFAIR!

This is the first time SP BP Mentoring has organised such an event that involves science, maths, arts & sports! Mentees outing usually only involves visiting historical places, doing community work & going different places. BUT! This time, we're bringing our mentees into our school & yet still guarantee they'll have fun!

The day kicked off witht the setting up of booths, signs & work allocation. Shortly, the mentees arrive from the various school & were brief on their mission of the day!

All mentees were required to go through each department (Science, Maths, Arts & Sports) to learn something new for the day! & to be the Knight of the Day and save Rapunzel from the evil witch!

Dear Mentors,

SP BP Mentoring Club is currently scouting for potential sub-committee members for the next academic year.

The club strongly believes in ensuring fairness and recognizing individual initiative. Hence, we would like to give ALL Year 1 mentors a fair chance of becoming future leader of the club.

Upon holding the title of "Sub-Committee 07/08", you will be given opportunities to organize and execute events under the assistance of the 7 th Management Committee.

This will be part of the training process in proceeding on to the next level of the management based on your excellent performance, regularity and active participation.

This is a golden opportunity as it will provide you with the planning and execution experiences that many companies are looking for nowadays.

It will also widen your social circle as being part of the Sub- Committee, you will be given chances to work with management of other clubs and even the external parties as well.

We strongly believe that you have more to gain the lose as long as you dare to dream and make the first step.

Thus, if you feel that you are willing to contribute your best and more and are interested in leading as a sub-committee, please kindly reply your intention to this email by 14th January 2008, Monday through spbpmentoring@gmail.com.

In addition, please provide a write-up (1 page or less) about yourself for us to understand more about you in facilitating the selection process.

Once the selection panel has made the decision, you will be informed by email after the semestral examination.

We're printing the new club tee soon!

Do reply to your school coordinators regarding your shirt sizes OR to our official email spbpmentoring@gmail.com

Please do indicate:

A minimal amount of BELOW $5 will be collected for the shirts.

Tshirt Design

Yoohoo mentors!

Currently our club will be looking forward to a new club T-shirt design that can most represent US. We will like to open up the opportunity to all our fellow mentors to design our new club T-shirt. This opportunity will allow you to showcase your TALENTS in designing our club T-shirt and explore your creativity as well.

The followings are the requirements that you may need to take note of while designing the T-shirt.

Requirements

Tshirt design must include the following:

SP logo, BP logo, Mentoring Logo (in mword format)
The words 'Mentoring Club' (must be noticeable)
Any creative slogan for the T-shirt you can think of OR use the current slogan ('Inspire & Motivate')
Max.colours used: 3 (any! take your pick!)
Front & Back view of the design
An explanation for your design

Please do email us if you didn't receive the mentoring logos in a microsoft word document.

LET YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOW NOW!

Provide your name, personal e-mail and contact no. when you submit your designs :)

The submission deadline would be 24th September 2007, Monday.

or alternatively, you can submit your hardcopy by dropping it in our mailbox at No. 17
